Following Your Heart Vs. Gut Feeling

My friend and I had a quick, yet insightful conversation about whether following what your heart says and your gut feeling is different, or one in the same.

My ruling was: They are two different things, for more reasons other than they are in separate areas of your body.

In my definition, having a “gut feeling” is more like your raw, primal, instinctive side. You respond on a quick, intuitive level.

On the other hand, following your heart is a deeper, more emotional choice. It reflects your past experiences and memories, your deepest desires, past regrets, and future opportunities. Emotion weighs in more heavily than logic.

Now, which one can you trust more? There is the question. If I were to come to a 3-way division in the road, would I go with my gut feeling or would I follow my heart? Which choice method would give me the better outcome?

Or does it depend on the situation?

I’d write more on the topic, but it’s been a long day and tomorrow is going to be even longer, so I’ll leave that last thought up to you.

Leave your thoughts in my ask if you’d like for me to continue this later. If not, I bid you goodnight!
