Poem For A Friend (Snippet)
I wrote the piece for the March show already. It took me two days.
I’ve never written a piece this fast before, but that also might be because I actually feel passionate towards the subject. Below is a snippet of the poem, and I’d love to explain the whole thing but I won’t. I try not to explain my pieces, but rather let the listeners/readers interpret the words for themselves. I might try to do a video of this piece if I get more comfortable with it. Maybe. Never done one before.
“And I would tell you how he speaks,
but he replaced his cunning tongue
with overdone phrases fed from top 40 rappers
and stepped his vocabulary game backwards
to fit in with these illiterate kids.
It’s as if good grammar was bad manners
and it didn’t matter if he read books
as long as he could remember a hook.
And it’s that same hook they
reeled him in with,
to construe his vision of realness
until he was too cool
to realize what really appealed to him.”
